Kangar is the state capital of Perlis, Malaysia. It is located in the northernmost point of Peninsular Malaysia and is situated by the Perlis River. The center of Kangar is Sena Province, which is referred to by few locals as 'Uptown Sena'. The town is the smallest in Malaysia and its inhabitants are mostly farmers and civil servants. It is believed that the name Kangar was derived from a species of hawk named Kangkok or Spizaetus Limnaetu.

Culture & Heritage

Downtown Kangar is a mixture of old and new shophouses, and has an elegant colonial State Secretariat Building and clocktower from the 1930s. Built as a replica of a palace in an ancient sultanate, the Kota Kayang Museum houses the history of early Perlis and Kedah civilizations.


One of the most distinctive caves in Malaysia is a 370-metre long limestone cave near the small town of Kaki Bukit (literally 'foot hill') called Gua Kelam (Cave of Darkness). Gua Kelam Recreational Park is popular for its enchanting 'cave walk' where you can enter from one end of the cave and come out at a different location. Other major landmarks are EPF Tower, one of the highest point in Kangar, Dato' Wan Ahmad's House, Kubu Hill Recreational Park, Malay World Weaponry Museum Medan Mountain, Perlis Craft Cultural Complex, Perlis State Mosque and State Museum and Heritage Hall.

Food & Drink

Nasi Ulam, which is rice mixed with some kind of leaf is a traditional food in Perlis. Few types of plants sliced ​​and mixed with rice. Pepper and crushed dried fish is mixed together, to enhance the taste of the rice. Laksa Kuala Perlis is famous laksa in Perlis. It is made ​​of rice flour and soak in fish-based soup. The garnishing comprises of selom leaves, onion, sliced ​​cucumber and boiled eggs.
This food is so well known in Kuala Perlis.
